Recurring Tasks Not Re-Appearing For Next Instance

I have a few recurring tasks: daily, weekly or bimonthly. When a current instance is completed, based on what I have read on this forum, the next one should appear soon after. However, that doesn’t happen with my tasks.

The tasks are assigned to me, and are in the correct Task section. When I filter for just incomplete tasks (my preferred view) they don’t appear at all. When I remove that filter, they show as Completed tasks.

I know this has been asked before, but all the suggested fixes have not worked for me. Thank you to anyone who can help!

Hello @Ben_Berk - Welcome to our community!

I am sorry you are having issues with recurring tasks not populating. I recommend reaching out to our support team and creating a ticket to get this resolved.

Hey @Ben_Berk, It sounds like your recurring tasks are set to repeat from the completion date, but they’re not being regenerated as incomplete tasks in your filtered view. In Asana, recurring tasks only create the next instance once the current one is marked complete, and the new instance inherits the original’s section, assignee, and due date pattern.

If the next task isn’t appearing:

  1. Make sure the recurrence is set in the Due Date menu (e.g., “Repeat → daily/weekly/bimonthly”) rather than in a custom field or description.

  2. Check that your filter is set to “Incomplete tasks” and due anytime — sometimes “due today” or “due this week” hides the new instance if it’s scheduled later.

  3. If you mark the task complete from My Tasks or the project list, refresh the page — the next one should appear right away.

  4. If it still stays in “Completed,” it may be because the recurrence rule is tied to a template or was broken during duplication. Try deleting and recreating the recurring task fresh.

If these steps don’t work, it’s likely a sync bug — in that case, contact Asana support with a link to the task so they can check the backend.
