Piling on. tap tap This is the Voice of the Customer speaking
Can you hear us?

I tried the sync, but it didnā€™t work. To be fair, instead of inputting the Workspace and Project Name, I input the Workspace and Assigned to (I wanted all my tasks, not just one projectā€™s tasks to integrate).

zzbots is sending me this error on both bots: (on the Google ā€œNew Detailed Eventā€)

  • You need to have writer access to this calendar.

Iā€™m not sure where where I went wrong because Iā€™m using my own Google account of course.

Any advice?

This most likely does not have to do with how you set up the bots. Even if the bots are set up correctly, it will require that you have writer access, or the ability to edit the Google Calendar you are syncing with. This will be a setting in Google Calendar.

You may want to double check your Google Calendar settings to make sure that you have full access to the calendar that you are syncing with.

I hope this helpful in answering your question. If you have any more questions, or need help setting anything up, feel free to chat us on our website or email us at support@zzbots.com.

Hi folks,

We have just released an update to our integration that allows you to control the duration of tasks in the calendar. This allows you to utilize our integration if you are using the time blocking strategy. You can then have tasks from Asana flow into your calendar, setup the duration and even move items around and it will update Asana.

We also have a time blocking setup available where the due dates in Asana will not be updated as long as there is no conflict. So if you have a task due on Friday morning, but youā€™re planning on being out of the office, you can place it on your calendar for Thursday morning instead. Asana will still show that the task is due on Friday, but your calendar will show that you are working on it on Thursday. If you have custom fields available, we can expose that information back into Asana as well in a custom field to show when the work is planned vs. due.

Below is a quick animation to show the integration in action. You can find out more here: https://www.projectprocs.com/post/time-blocking-with-asana

Maggie, unfortunately the Product Procs sync updates in December to add the time blocking have broken the traditional sync that was working pretty well previously. Now tasks are shifted so they end at the ā€˜due timeā€™ rather than that being the start time - which was great for slotting tasks for when they should be done during the day. Now the calendar and Asana appear out of sync.

Also, Iā€™m now seeing recurring tasks that had a due time and default duration of an hour suddenly become 24 hour long tasks that end at the due time.

I appreciate you adding new features but they broke the only usable calendar sync option available for Asana. I really hope you can fix things or roll back the changes asap.

Hi Alex, sorry for the delay, I donā€™t check the Asana forums as often as I should. Could you please email support@projectprocs.com with the email address you used to sign up and I will make sure we get this resolved for you. We did introduce some new functionality but it should not have affected your previous settings, but obviously something went wrong somewhere.

Maggie thanks for the out of forum help with the issue. Back to working as normal. You still have the only reasonable Asana to calendar syncing solution Iā€™ve seen and Iā€™m glad itā€™s all working again.

I have just signed up for Project Procs/Buddy to handle real time sync to google calendar, but I too am having issues with the due date time in Asana showing up as 1 hour earlier start time in Google Calendar. Please help!

Is there any integration out there that will two-way sync Asana tasks as actual todos/tasks instead of calendar events? I use BusyCal and am able to view my events/appointments calendar side by side with my todo checklist, which is very helpful. I can assign todos into a timeslot on my calendar, as well as see the todo as part of a checklist down the side of the calendar. Another key feature is being able to drag emails from Apple Mail into BusyCal as new tasks.

Has anyone else discussed this before? I canā€™t seem to find this in any of my searches.

I am adding a comment here, which is similar to what I added to another thread.

There a couple of external services that can provide such functionality, or at least partially, however:

  1. Using an external service means:
  • additional cost for the organisation, which can be an issue
  • sharing your entire data with third parties, which can be a major security problem and is a concern for IT - they will never allow us to share our data with third parties that are not clear about their terms, etc
  • this increases the amount of housekeeping which is required, since now more systems and workflows need to be maintained

The best solution is that Asana develops a solution which covers at least the basics and then if anyone needs something extra or specific to search for a partner.

I would personally be very happy with the following

  1. each task sync with Google Tasks or Calendar or both

Since this is an issue which has been raised a number of times, I would like to encourage Asana to:

  • respond to any of these threads with a bit more information
  • take this as a product feature request and plan for it

!!!

  • open its plan for development a little bit, because this secrecy is not helping big organisation, creates a huge amount of manual work for something that will be solved soon, etc.
  • very often even support and the person we talked to from sales could not give us even an idea of that will be developed next.
  • no details are needed, as those can change, but general idea of what is coming and which problems will be tackled will be greatly appreciated and useful
  • keeping the product roadmap secret makes sense if your users are people (like Facebook), but not if they are companies, since for companies planning is key (hence the need to pay for a tool like Asana)
  • competition should not be a worry, as if it is, that there are bigger problems that just some features

I have contacted support numerous times with product and feature request and we are always pointed to post in the forum, but my feeling is that it is not reaching the development and management of Asana and therefore it has little practical value.

Any updates on this? This is obviously a highly requested feature, and as another user pointed out, it has been nearly three years since this issue was first raised in this thread. Can someone give us a timeline of when we can expect to see this feature implemented?

Asana never gives timeline or share their roadmap. And the date of the first request is probably not also taken into account, rather the cost versus benefit to the entire user base (FYI I donā€™t work at Asana, jut my personal point of view)

@Maggie_Reddi - Maggie is awesome and is from Project Buddy. Sheā€™ll probably be the best person to help.

@Michael_Johnson1 - also, she responded to another user here with the support email. Hereā€™s her answer:

I am aware of this, however my request is that this is reconsidered, because it is important for bigger (and therefore slower) organisations to plan the development of their processes further down the road

Has anybody been able to perform a two-way sync with the native integration? Iā€™ve tried Zapier. I figured out that itā€™s not possible. Any other solution?
