I’m confused by the access model for templates.
I have a template that I have shared with a whole team. I want anyone in that team to be able to create a new project from the template. So, in the template settings, I have my team in Select a team, and “anyone in team can use” in Privacy.
Then a colleague asked for access. When I clicked through to the notification and followed the instructions, it seems I have to add her to Template Access.
When I add her to the Template Access, she has the “Can use” permission.
But if she’s in the team doesn’t she already have “can use” under the team access? Is Template Access → “Can Use” a way to give people the ability to raise projects from the template who are outside of the team?
I am confused
@Mike_O_Dell this task is generated due to your colleague pressing “request edit access” rather than the “use template” button on the screen

Many thanks for responding. I understand the origin of the task created after the user requests access. But I’m confused about the difference between the “Can use” for the user (after access was granted) and the “Anyone in team can use” in the template settings. Both appear on the same settings page for the template.
To clarify for anyone reading,
- create a template and make it available to the team.
- have one member of the team request access to the template
- go to the “provide access” task and give that user “can use” permission.
What can that user now do that they could not do as part of the team?
@Mike_O_Dell the steps you described are duplicate actions if the requested user is already part of the team. Templates are Asana team based so you provided access to the team, while within the settings page you can provide individual access where they can have elevated permissions or you are able to add individuals from outside that specific team in your organization
