Thanks @Bastien_Siebman! @Greg_George we already have a thread on this topic, so I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with Project Template assigned tasks show up in My Tasks automatically. Feel free to had your vote at the top of this main thread!
Where is the “Later” section you all speak of?
The only collapsible section I have in My Tasks is “New Tasks”
Dang…really disappointed. I was really loving Asana until this was discovered. I just moved to Asana from Teamwork and I used Teamworks templates a TON.
Just reiterating to the dev team…please make templates not live!
Hi @Ryan_Reed, You only see the Later section if you have something in it. It feels like a design flaw in my opinion as it then makes it impossible to drag things to it. But you can still use the keyboard section to move something there (TAB+L).
Ahhh thanks! Makes things so much easier to organize!
Fix this and I become a paid user!
I think that’s the problem…I’m not a developer, but it appears that there wasn’t a lot of new functionality built into Templates. It’s basically just a Project.
We struggle with this as well. The idea that this can be used as a template is essentially pointless - it really is just another project. The template would be more effective if we could have all the assignees already plugged into each of their respective tasks but NOT show in their “My Tasks” view because, at this point in time, it’s just a template. Then , when “Duplicate Project” occurs and the box is checked to carry the assignees, it triggers the tasks to show up in the respective assignee’s My Task View.
As it is today, I literally have a task in my template telling someone to duplicate the template and then assign all the tasks and sub-tasks. Sadly, the person that kicks this off doesn’t necessarily have all those answers.
Hi @Marie. Any update on this? I’m trying to get my teammates to buy into Asana and having these tasks from templates showing up in their Inbox and My Tasks list is incredibly frustrating.
Thanks for your assistance with this.
Hi @BrettInSeattle and thanks for reaching out!
I completely understand where you’re coming from and apologise for the frustration and trouble. Unfortunately, I don’t have any update on this topic at the moment, but I’ll make sure to update this thread as soon as I do! Thank you so much for your patience and again so sorry for the inconvenience!
This issue wouldn’t be so bad if sub-tasks displayed the Project Name in your My Tasks list, but all you get are an anonymous mix of templates and projects. Really difficult when you have 50 projects on the go with some team members have 10+ sub-tasks per project!
FYI there is a solution to this issue built in as part of my Flowsana integration.
If you use task dependencies and you use Flowsana’s “Duration-based” workflow type, you have the ability to populate an “Assign To” custom field with the name of the person who is to perform each task. Then when you mark a task’s dependency as complete, Flowsana automatically assigns the dependent task to the person whose name you put in the Assign To field.
This allows you to preset the names of the people who are to perform each task, without having them appear in Asana as the actual assignee on the task until such time as the task is ready to be performed (because its dependency was completed).
You can see more about it here or send me a private message for specific Flowsana questions.
Agreed – because it is a template, and not an active project, the tasks should not show up on anyone’s “My Tasks,” because they are NOT their tasks. They are theoretical or future tasks. Marking for later, by definition, means you will do it at some point, while in reality you will not do it UNTIL the template is used to create an active project.
@Marie and @Shannon_McNeil This conversation was started June of 2017, and there still seems to be no resolution. I see from Marie’s last post in dec that there is no update.
Can you please advise WHEN this will be resolved? Communicating when it will be resolved would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Hi Miriam! I haven’t heard any updates around adjusting this logic, but will follow up with our product team.
Thanks @Shannon_McNeil!!
I was searching for instructions on this topic and now I understand it is a bug rather than myself not knowing how to use Asana well. As templates will be a vital part of our business as the whole point of Asana is to systematise our business can anyone else point me in another direction to use a more reliable solution with tasks of templates not being assigned to users until they are activated as projects?
Hi,
We use project templates with pre assigned tasks. I would like to suggest to hide these tasks from “My Tasks” since its only used for template purposes.
Thanks
Hi @gualtieri the go to work around for this is to move those tasks to the “Later Section”, there is also a seperate topic on this as well.
@Marie or @Edda can you please merge this with relevant topic.
@gualtieri you can then vote for that enhancement…
Jason.
Hi @Jason_Woods ,
Nice suggestion, did it for now. Move tasks to later would mix with other “later” tasks.
I don’t see the link to the existing topic you mentioned.
Sure i would vote
Hi @gualtieri Here is the thread @Jason_Woods was referring to: Project Template assigned tasks show up in My Tasks automatically, I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with this main thread to consolidate feedback on this topic!
