Project for ongoing retail store opening process

I am trying to create a workflow that makes the most sense for our company use case.
We are opening 10+ stores by the end of the year and all departments are involved in the process. I am trying to figure out how to create triggers based on specific tasks. For example, once a lease is executed, the other tasks can begin. I have tried this with sections, creating rules but it doesn’t seem to be efficient. I am looking for a way to make this process make sense. It is created manually for now but I’d like to create a workflow to be able to duplicate the project.

Hi @Bianca_Harris , welcome to the forum

This can be achieved by using dependencies. So, once an assignee completes the lease task, then the assignee of the next taks will be notified automatically via their Asana Inbox.

I personally find the easiest way for making tasks dependent on each other is by using the timeline view or the newish Gantt view which you need to manually add using the + icon at the end of the view tabs, on the right. In either of these views, you can literally connect tasks by clicking and dragging the circles above or below them.

Once you setup all task durations and dependencies as a ‘sketch’ in a regular project, you can save it as a template which you can then use to generate multiple projects - one project for each retail store opening. Then if you are on the Advanced tier, you can group all these projects into a portfolio to get a bird’s eye view of all your retail openings!

PS: would you mind if I move this post into the public forum where +600k other users could benefit from reading this?

I have done that. That makes sense. Thank you! I think maybe I was overthinking it. I’d like to try and find more ways to create rules and workflows to automate our processes overall but that will come with more projects!

PS: I don’t mind. Thanks!
