Possible to create a dynamic task name for task based on routines

Hi Asana. We have multible task running in Asana - f.eks. “Create a monthly recnociliation of bankacconts”. Is it possible to add a dynamic Tekst on the Task-name of whitch month the reconcilation must be to. We unfortunatly experience that task-due-dates easily get extented, why the overview of the month the reconciliation must be at, can be mis-guided. I would apriciate NOT to create 12 of the same tasks :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you

Welcome to the Community Forum @anon76581458!

Just to make sure we get this right, are you looking to move one due date and then that other due dates in your project are automatically updated if there is an overlap in the dates of any of the tasks?

Looking forward to your reply!

No Emily - No Not exacly

I am looking fore dynamic text-field in the task-name. Fore excambel I start the Task with
“Create a monthly recnociliation of bankacconts - JANUARY” with a due date of 5.th of february. When I have completed the task, the new creates task (created due to i have set to repeat" will now updtate the Task-name to: “Create a monthly recnociliation of bankacconts - FEBRUARY”.

Does it make sense?

Thanks for the extra context @anon76581458! :raised_hands: We currently don’t have a similar feature but this is a great idea! I’ve gone ahead and moved your request to the product feedback category to allow votes. I’ve also slightly updated the name to make it more discoverable for other users that have the same request, I hope you don’t mind!

Let me know if you have follow up questions. I’ll be happy to help!

Yes please! This would be great. Some suggestions of variables to be able to put in to get us started:

  • Month Previous
  • Month Current
  • Month Next
  • Date Current
  • Index (the iteration number of this task?)

I also would appreciate the ability to add a dynamic variable into tasks and descriptions. For searchability purposes, we put item IDs into our task titles (and we may have a dozen active tasks based off of the same task template).

Instead of manually updating all the task and subtask titles and descriptions with the item ID, we’d like to be able to replace the item ID in one place, and update all the instances of that variable in the parent task at the same time. Otherwise, we have to copy and paste the item ID many times.

Yes I would like the PROJECT NAME to dynamically appear in the task headline eg <<>> check XYZ elements.

FYI our Flowsana integration has the ability to update task names in a variety of ways - you can include the project name and many other values - using a feature we call “Variable Substitution”.

You can read more here: Variable Substitution in Flowsana

Very much needed

Definitely needed feature

I’m looking forward to this feature too.

Same here!

Would love to see this feature! I use Asana to manage cross-functional product launches. I have a project template for “[PRODUCT NAME] - Marketing Launch Plan,” with dozens of subtasks that also include [PRODUCT NAME] in the title (so that they can be added to other projects and the task is still clear). Would love to be able to copy the entire project and replace “[PRODUCT NAME]” with the feature name vs. having to copy/paste into every subtask.
