Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing:
I am trying to connect a form question to a field I created and saved to the Field library. New saved field does not show in field library but when I try to recreate it, it says it has already been created.
Steps to reproduce:
Go to question on Creative Request form: Created By which is a single select dropdown.
Click on Connect to Field
Search the field library for previously saved fields so that the field auto-populates with the creator’s name.
Saved field does not show so try to create again
Asana says the field has already been created.
Browser version:
Chrome - latest version
What version of Asana are you using (Basic/Premium/Business/Enterprise)?
Business
Can you confirm that the field in the library is defined to be a single-select field also? “Connect to field” only shows fields of the same type as the question’s type.
Ahh, that is the issue. The field in the library is a “People” field. I’d prefer to be able to choose that instead of the single-select but it’s not an option to choose from when I edit the form.
How can I get that field to auto-populate the name of the person who is submitting the request so I don’t have to go into list view every time and add the name?
Hi @Daniel_Cabezas , unfortunately no, People fields are not supported in forms, currently, likely due to privacy reasons.
You could instead create a single-select field with names of people as dropdown options. This obviously add a maintenance/scalability issue but works like a charm when kept up-to-date.
Even better, as long as you don’t mind possible inconsistencies in name spelling, or you don’t need to extract data into dashboards (eg. how many times a certain person was selected)
PS. I’ve added ‘People’ to the start of the topic title for better searchability.
