Pasting tables from Outlook

#1

How do you paste tables and retaining their borders? Some information is better presented in tables. I tried pasting using CTRL+SHIFT+V and it retained the values in tabular structure but with no borders so data is cluttered.

Hi Ying,

No, this is not currently possible to do. Asana’s rich text supports just a subset of HTML capabilities and tables are not something that it supports.

Probably the closest you can get is to take a screen clipping of the table and paste it into the task. Not the same, I know, but might be better than nothing depending on your needs.

Here’s a workaround that may help you. (If not, it’s still helpful to keep this solution in the bag of tricks for other needs.)

  1. In Word or another app (it works in various apps and I assume Outlook too), select and copy (Cmd-C) your table content:

  2. Go to https://www.tablesgenerator.com/text_tables and do File > New Table…:

  3. Now do Paste table data… then in the dialog paste (Cmd-V) the copied content and click Load, resulting in:

  4. Click the “Copy to Clipboard” button (not shown; at the far right).

  5. Paste into your Asana task’s Description field. Initially it will look like this:

  6. Select all and apply the Monospace font: Cmd-Shift-M resulting in:
