Open new desktop app window with [shift]+[click] on taskbar

Asana opens a new window when using shift+ click on any link within Asana, which is great, especially when working with multiple virtual desktops.

But many times I want to open a new window when there is no such option in the current one, for instance when viewing a task “full screen”. (full window is more accurate)

It would be really convenient if Asana (like almost all other applications I use) would respond to shift+ click on the app on the taskbar by opening a new window.

On a side note: There is some odd behaviour paired with the shift+ click to open a link in a new window. When working with Asana windows on multiple desktops, the closing of Asana in one virtual desktop forces the active desktop to shift to another desktop that has Asana open.

I like the tabs. I do. But actually, sometimes I want to put one Asana window on one screen, and another one over on another screen, so I can refer to one task while writing another, or see multiple views of the same thing at once, or whatever. I have to open the web page to put on another screen, which is doable but I’d love to decide to split a tab out into a new window so I didn’t have to do that.

I just found the feature request where everyone said ‘I wish it didn’t keep opening new windows, I want tabs’ and… now I wish I could have the windows sometimes!

@Dev_Lunsford1 You can open a new window when using shift+ click on almost any link in Asana.

You need certain types of links though.

If you like to expand this feature like I suggested then you can vote at the top.

I haven’t found any new windows yet - I’m used to the Trello app where you can middle-click a card and bring it up in its own app window, and from there you have 2 Trello windows to set up as you like. Voted though, because a shift-click on the taskbar would be enough for me.

Oo, I’ve just found the shift-click on a task link, so in the meantime I will start using that. It’s fine if you have a link to work from, but it would be better if I could do the same on a task card instead of having to find a link. But that’s still a step forwards, thanks for absorbing my post

By accident I discovered I could open an new window by pressing ctrl + N

Would still like the interface to be consistent with browswer and other apps, but this is definitely a workable solution.

I don’t think you can move a tab in one window into a window that is already opened, right?
You have to add a new tab & navigate to that link directly where you were?

@CT_Charlotte_Terry

You can’t move it from one window to the next once opened.

The ability to move a tab from one window to another would be A+.

@CT_Charlotte_Terry that is a different request but related.

I recommend:

  • You search to see if there is an existing topic in Product Feedback on this.
    – If there is: add your vote and voice, and crosslink.
    – If there isn’t create your own topic, vote for it, and crosslink

For Asana to decide what to implement, it really helps if you convey the why behind the request.
