Notifications to collaborators on tasks

We want collaborators on tasks (who are not the assignees) to be notified of changes to their tasks.

  1. Am I correct that this must be done with a Rule?
  2. When I create that rule, the owner/assignee on a task gets duplicate notifications because they are also collaborators. Is there a way to stop this duplication?

Collaborators are notified of some, but not all, changes to a task. You can find the list in Asana Help. One such notification to collaborators is when a comment is added. So generally folks use that mechanism to notify collaborators with a comment “Description changed” for those actions that don’t already trigger a notification. You could create the comment manually, or with a rule, for example when the Description changes. The audit trail stories provide a diff often of the change.

Assignees are collaborators automatically so that might be why you saw a duplicate notification.
