While exploring Asana’s built-in Out of Office feature, we noticed that OOO entries appear to be full-day only, with no option to indicate partial availability.
What we’re trying to do: Set OOO for a portion of a day, for example, indicating that a team member is available in the morning but out in the afternoon, or will be working reduced hours on a given day. This comes up regularly for things like medical appointments, half-day PTO, or flex schedules.
What we’ve tried: We’ve looked through the OOO settings modal and don’t see any option to set a time range within a day, only start and end dates.
What’s not working: Without partial-day support, the feature presents a binary picture of availability that doesn’t reflect how many teams actually work. Marking someone as fully OOO when they’re only out for part of a day could lead to missed assignments or unnecessary confusion for teammates trying to reach them. I already added another request for OOO time to be accounted for in the Workload total hours and with this feature, that would also make it possible to have accurate accounting for hours available for work on a day, week, sprint period, etc.
A time-of-day selector on OOO entries, or at minimum a notes field where someone could add context like “OOO date + time,” would go a long way.
