Move/Copy entire Sections from one Project to another Project

Working across lots of different clients who all have similar set up (though different details and timelines) i’d love to be able to have my own ‘template’ version that I can then copy over to add in details and timings. Currently have to set them all up from scratch - unless i’m missing something very obvious?

On a new trial and have already found myself in this thread wanting answers…looks like I’m off again to trial another platform!!! Did like the easy set up of Asana though…just get the copy/paste section function going and we’re in business!!

Note: Not a solution but marked as such to elevate a key reply

This feature to copy an entire section with all its tasks (albeit into the same project) was recently launched:

It provides a workaround / partial solution that completes the OP’s workaround in the original request which handled the “Move” part of the request in several steps. Now you can similarly handle the “Copy” part of the request: Use the new feature to copy the entire section (in the source project), create the section name in the destination project, multi-select all the newly-copied tasks in the source project and multi-home them to the destination project and section, and finally remove the section name empty section in the source project.

Thanks,

Larry

Welcome, @Gary_Scott,

Perhaps that previous post I just made in this thread might keep you around! Is this single feature a deal breaker? You must have a unique use case.

Thx Larry, I will investigate

I am in a similar situation than Gary_Scott. I tried out Asana. I have setup up all I need and was very happy with the result - until I couldnt find the option to move a section from one project to another. Ended up in this forum on this post realizing that I am part of a big group of people that cant believe that this basic function is missing.

Same situation :man_facepalming:

If you are looking for a workaround for this you can:

  1. Create a new section in the project you want to duplicate to.
  2. Add a task with a name you will remember under that new section.
  3. In the original project you can duplicate the section you wish to move to the second project.
  4. Highlight all of the tasks in this new section.
  5. When the control panel bar pops up on the bottom of the screen click the three dots, followed by “convert to subtasks”
  6. Look up the task you made in the second project nestled under the new section, and click on it.
  7. Open the second project, under the new section and created task, you should find the tasks you want to move.
  8. Drag and drop the tasks under the new section.

Add me to the list. This isn’t a unique use case at all. I have a Section in one Project with a number of tasks, and I need to move it to a different Project. The “Duplicate Section” and drop into the other project is functional, but sure is kludgey. I love Asana otherwise, but this is one of those pretty straightforward features that seems like it HAS to exist somehow - so obvious - but it doesn’t. (Yet… I’m an optimist. )
