Launching sorting within Sections! 🄳

@Shawna_Nordman,

An alternative is to use Asana2Go (disclaimer: i’m the creator) for multi-column sorts like product and due date based on an advanced search result:

Hi @Shawna_Nordman and thanks for sharing your feedback with us! If you haven’t yet, I would recommend casting your vote in this other thread: Sort and filter project by multiple fields (Due date and assignee for example). :slight_smile:

Very excited about this feature! @Marie, are there plans to make this available in the My Tasks view as well? Currently, I have sections set up in that view and would love to be able to sort tasks within those sections as well.

Any chance this feature is coming to My Tasks? Always a bit of work to reorganize all tasks as it stands now when they switch sections…

Hi @JohanW! I’m hopeful this will be extended to My Tasks in the future. I don’t have any info just yet in this topic, but I’ll make sure to keep you posted as soon as possible!

When I sort by section and the reload the page, the sort in section doesn’t hold - goes back to the pre-automatic sort. Is there some glitch here or is there another step I am not doing?

Hi @David_Kulick,

Can you save this layout by default? That should resolve your issue :slight_smile:

Is it somewhere in the roadmap to sort by secondary custom field? I mean I got two dimensions within every task - difficulty (big rock, medium rock or small rock) and the priority. I always sort by difficulty but I also want sort by priority then. Do you know what I mean?

Thanks! Milan

Basically the ability to apply a secondary sort within a section while outside the section a primary sort is applied using a different condition (custom field or alphabetic, etc)…

Correct? I love this. I also would love to see the ability to apply multiple filters also.

Hey @Milan_Cidilo and @LEGGO,

We already have a #productfeedback thread on this topic, if you haven’t yet, I’d recommend adding your vote to Sort and filter project by multiple fields (Due date and assignee for example) :slight_smile:

Hey Marie, thanks for this thread. You mentioned you would be rolling out to a few, then increasing. Is it available to all now? I’m not seeing this option in my dropdown for sort. Thanks!

Hi @Rabs, this update is now available to all our customer, you should be able to enable it from your project sorting menu:

Is there a way to sort the SECTIONS by name? My client has about 30 sections in a project, they did not import in alphabetical order, and sorting them manually is tedious.

(As a side note, I tried to do Cntrl+F to see if anyone asked this. Its kind of annoying that rather than searching the text on the page, it searches Asana’s database)

I don’t think this is possible at the moment.
You can add a custom field which matches each section (up to 50 values) and then sort by the custom field.

This will create sections with each of the values of the custom field and you can rearrange them manually by rearranging the values in the custom field.

You will not be able to open subtasks within the main project this way

Thanks for sharing this great workaround @IvanStaykov :+1:t3:

@Alaia_Williams :wave:t3:

You can search text on the web page by clicking ā€œCmd+Fā€ twice in a row :slight_smile:

@Marie Any update on when this might be being rolled out into My Tasks? It’s a pain that when tasks automatically move from Later into Upcoming, they go to the top of the list regardless of date. I use upcoming to plan my week ahead so I’d really like this to be sorted by date.
