Keeping task color from original field when new project is added?

My colleague is creating tasks in an events calendar project and assigning them to me with a color that matches the event type. When I add the task to my timeline project for the initiative it changes color to match my project. How can I keep the original field color and add the task to my project?

@Alexis_Bucknam This is happening because it’s a color-by setting mismatch, not anything you’re doing wrong. When you add the task to another project, the Timeline uses that project’s own “Color by” setting, which is why the color changes.

To fix it, make sure you add the same existing “Event type” custom field (don’t recreate it) into your Timeline project, then set your Timeline to Color by that field so the colors match across both projects.

If it still looks off, check that you’re not coloring by Project instead of the custom field, and make sure there aren’t duplicate “Event type” fields on the task.

Just keep in mind: colors in Asana always follow the view settings of each project. There’s no way to lock a single color across all projects.
