My company prioritizes tasks throughout a project subsection. I would like to see that number as part of the task UI so that I don’t have to go scroll through the entire project with hundreds or thousands of tasks to determine what number it is on the list.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “subsections of a project” but if you mean regular Sections, you can add numbering to all tasks of all projects throughout the UI by going to your Settings (click on your avatar / profile photo in the top right corner) then go to the Display tab and you will find it in the checkboxes below.
You could also add an ID field to your projects in case that is preferable.
Yes, that enables the numbering in the projects sections. I want to see the numbering in the task UI.
I can see the number 1 in the section, but I want to see that in the task information (perhaps next to the project section it is in).

Is there some reason you can’t create a numeric custom field in the project for this purpose?
Would you want a rule to set that value based on the section where you add/move the task?
