In Portfolio Timeline View, Always show all Milestones, but default to hide milestone text

We use the portfolio timeline view quite a bit, but often miss milestones that are before today, because they’re collapsed into a “group” which is before today, but have milestones that show up in the future. This is a confusing design since you have to scroll backwards in time, expand the milestone group, then you scroll forwards again to see the milestones. Here’s an example:

It looks like there are no milestones this week… (see my feature request below - show all milestone diamonds, show not all the text)

But if I scroll backwards then there’s a group of “9 milestones” which isn’t obvious I needed to scroll backwards to see.

Now if I expand them they all show up.

This is pretty confusing since you can’t tell at a glance which projects have milestones due.

My suggestion is that you always show all milestone diamonds, but then have a button to expand and see the milestone text.

I have a couple milestones due on the same day within a project in the portfolio timeline view that group as “# Milestones” instead of displaying each in a list.

The only way to see them is to hover over them, and at a glance, this view becomes pretty ineffective. Let’s say I have two projects in a portfolio and for the first project, I have 1 milestone and for the other 4 milestones due that day. At a glance, it would appear that instead of 5 milestones total being due on the date, it would be only 2 because of the grouping.

Is there a workaround for this?

I am trying to create a single page view for a weekly meeting to go through milestones due each week within a portfolio of projects. I’ve turned on the milestones view and understand that there is a drop down list that happens with milestones. What i’m really struggling with is how these Milestones are minimized and grouped as there does not seem to have any rhyme or reason for it. and in some cases I would have to scroll back months prior to hit the drop down in order for the milestone to show up in the current week or days i’m looking at as it doesnt show up there otherwise. Ie: if i minimized the 8 milestones again from the Kaitlyn project that are marked Jan 14 i would not see a milestone for Jan 28 etc.
I’ve not seen an option to Expand all milestones or only show milestones for the current week (only due dates for the projects themselves) And I dont want to miss milestones during these meetings and have to open them each time as they don’t save expanded either. A list does not show the calendar view only the milestone status field which is useless for the current week. and a dashboard would cause way to many click thoughts. Saved search has limitations as well. I’m hoping someone can explain how the milestones group and show the way that they do so that perhaps we can adjust how we do things on the project level to show up properly here. Maybe it has something to do within where they relate to each other within date or if they were created the same time. i’m lost please help ASAP!!

here is a more minimized view for reference

Welcome, @Kate_Goldsmith2,

This is a known issue. I’ve merged your post into an existing topic where you can click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button (as I did previously).

A saved advanced search report like this:

is the best workaround I know. You can save the output style, which could be grouped by project or by date, and viewed in a list or calendar (but not a timeline).

Thanks,

Larry
