I need to split off one of the workspaces of my personal account.

Dear community members,
Could anyone please help me out?

I need to split off one of the workspaces of my personal account.
This workspace has members of a group that i’m no longer part of. A specific account should be the new owner.
When I convert the workspace into a company, will I be able to dismiss myself?
How can i uncouple myself from this workspace or company?

History & background
I was member of a board of an association called Zhong. As a test we decided to go for Asana (free version) and this works rather well.
This workspace was set up in my personal account; my personal myname@domain.nl.
The members of this workspace Zhong have have all the same email domain and do have roles (not names); like president@zhong.nl,treasurer@zhong.nl and others.
My role was secretary@zhong.nl; this email address is one of the members of this workspace. So there’s an Asana account secretary@zhong.nl (apart from my personal account)

Objective / questions
I need to extract this workspace Zhong to a new owner, an account that is associated with the association Zhong. The email address secretary@zhong.nl should be the owner, or alternatively, manager@zhong.nl.
If I convert my Zhong workspace into a company, can I withdraw myself and have my successor use the secretary@zhong.nl account?
What do I need to do to disconnect secretary@zhong.nl from my personal account?

Note: In the workspace there are many projects and there are various people assigned to tasks and projects. Obviously these all must remain as is.
PS: I was forwarded to a third party integration called Ditto that allows to migrate a project from one Workspace/Organization to another Workspace/Organization: https://ditto.kothar.net/. This does seem not applicable.

Any help is appreciated as Asana support is too busy :frowning:

@Sytze_Wierda This is a very interesting use case and I can see this happening to other people also. I would suggest the 3rd party tool you mentioned but as you stated the assigning of tasks would not be in tact.

What I could suggest that you select all tasks assigned to one person and then create a tag with that persons name. Do this for all the accounts. Then after transferring all the tasks to a new workspace you use the tags for filter the tasks and reassign them to the correct person. Hope this helps.

Have you tried this third party tool? https://asana.kothar.net/

@Sytze_Wierda, I would recommend that you contact Asana Support and let them explain their recommendation. There may be work they can do that you can’t, nor any third party. They may be able to do something on their end or, at the least, tell you the best steps for you to follow. If they can’t migrate this for you, then you will want to use https://ditto.kothar.net/ (the older Kothar tool is no longer recommended; the Ditto Beta is preferred according to the creator) as recommended to copy from the old workspace to the new org.

Hope that helps,

Larry

Thank you Paul for your reply. The developer of Kothar assured me that thing would stay in tact. However, the thing is about users, not tasks. Thank you for your suggestion nonetheless. I might in come handy!

Thank you for replying Kaite. I was not aware of this page.
As I understand of reading the steps I would assume that the current user secretary@zhong.nl be replaced by a temporary user; create a workspace or company within the user secretary@zhong.nl; and use the tool to transfer everything. (Afterwards, replace the temp account for secretary@…)
Is this a correct understanding?

It would leave me with the question how to uncouple/disconnect? Or do I just delete whatever remains on my personal account since it’s transferred to the new user??

Thank you IGB. It was Asana support that asked me to rely on this community to provide assistance as they are to busy currently … :frowning:
If “”nothing”” comes out of here I’ll ask Asana support again.

Thanks for pointing the beta Ditto to me!

@Sytze_Wierda, Sorry for missing the part about Support in your original email. Perhaps @Marie or @Natalia might have a chance to help? A number of the things you ask are easy and won’t pose problems, but the basics of how to get this migrated should be done in the best manner to avoid a lot of extra work, and because I’m not positive of that best way and there’s a lot at stake, I think it’s good to wait for Marie or Natalia (or maybe someone else knows well) or Support.
