How to turn a Task into a Section

Hi! Recently, the colon ( keyboard shortcut was removed. This previously turned a task into a section by having the end of the task end in a colon (:).

Now, how can I turn a task into a section?

Hi @Chaz, unfortunately I do not think this an option any longer since they got rid of the colon-to-section functionality.

I think I recall seeing somewhere that it might be added back at some point via an update to the UI.

There is a Chrome extension that allows you to do that. Asana Navigator - Chrome Web Store

Hi @Chaz and welcome to the Forum!

As @Ben_Brenner mentioned, there is no longer possible to turn a Task into a section adding a semi-colon. This is due to some updates and adjusts Asana had to make to implement new features. (You can read more about it in this post: "Tab+N" our new shortcut to create Sections)

With that said, the extension @Bastien_Siebman mentioned should allow you to do it.

I hope this helps!

Thanks @Natalia

Is this a feature that is coming back? I miss it like the moon misses the sun.

Yep, I’m missing my sleep because I have to transfer several dozen multi-layered tasks from one workspace to another, including amendments to their descriptions and I spent hours setting it all up in a CSV file, only to discover that not only can you not add sections within subtasks, but my imagined workaround is fettled too since easily turning a task into a section is not a thing anymore… Strikes me as a very unhelpful decision to make and judging by the numerous voices crying out for it in the past two years (Asana developers, two years is a loooong time in tech!), we are not alone. In the meantime, I shall grab some fresh air on the balcony and silently scream into the night to psych myself up for the inevitable all-nighter I will have to pull.
