Makes for a messy sidebar to have portfolios and projects jumbled together, and it used to be customizable, so one could list them separated, aka, to have portfolios listed in its own section from projects listed in sidebar
Is there any updates coming to bring this view option back?

In the meantime, as a workaround, you may consider using the Starred section to organize your most important items. Star the portfolios and projects you access frequently, and from there, you can now reorder your Starred list by lumping together your projects on top of your list and the portfolios at the bottom.
