How Do Reports Work

I’m an admin for my company. I’ve created a reporting dashboard for my company. Inside that dashboard is a chart that shows Overdue tasks by Assignee.

I was in a meeting today where I was told that an individual on our team had 15 past due tasks showing up this afternoon. When I reviewed the dashboard this morning, this individual did not show up having any past due tasks.

If the individual has tasks that are only in his “My Tasks” project and not included in any other project that I have access to, will those tasks not be included in my companywide dashboard? I’m confused as to how he might have all those tasks overdue and not have them show up on the report.

Thanks for any input or explanation anyone has.

Welcome, @Summer_Gustin,

Yes, that’s right. These dashboard charts only show data for what the logged in user has access to, so if you colleague ran the same report, they’d see those overdue tasks, whereas you wouldn’t if you didn’t have access.

A good best practice is for every collaborative task to live in at least one shared project (or more than one, which is referred to as “multi-homing”).

Thanks,

Larry
