I just submitted a help ticket trying to figure out how to not schedule tasks on statutory/bank holidays, and found out it’s not a feature, and eventually found this thread. I’m shocked this has been requested for 4 years at this point with no movement on it from Asana.
I was shifting some task due dates this morning, and dependencies ended up being assigned on a statutory holiday for 2/3 of the assignees. And, since we have staff in the US, Canada and UK, we have a variety of statutory/bank holidays we have to accommodate, so we need some sort of “work schedule” that can be set at the user level, and could then also accommodate other periods away from work. We often run into the problem of scheduling tasks on people’s vacation/leave times.
We moved to Asana from Wrike with the promise that Asana was better in all ways, but this was a feature that Wrike had and I honestly expected it to exist in Asana as well.
While the “show me as away” function is a nice visual indicator, it doesn’t help me schedule projects in advance.
Having the ability to block out org. wide initiatives/holidays/vacations would certainly help prevent last minute schedule changes and adjustments. Of course, they’re inevitable, but it would be an added layer of protection.
Would also be ideal for a template to recognize black out dates and adjust accordingly.
We’ve recently begun implementing use of this feature as a team.
While the show me as away feature does “notify” me that the individual is away it is simply by greying out their photo with a yellow ring, and adding “Away though DATE” when tagged.
I can still assign work to them during their away time. It does not prevent me from doing so, and I do not receive anything in my inbox indicating that I’ve assigned work to someone who is away
Hello @Andrea_Mayer , thank you for organizing topics, threads and our ACF in general. On the other hand, do you realize this thread was created by @mike.enslin in April 2018. April 2018. Honestly I´m surprised by the ease you advice @Janie_Williamson to upvote after 4 years Asana did literally nothing to implement this feature…
yes I am aware it was created in 2018.
But I am also aware of the fact that Asana has and is constantly implementing new features, including ones from this forum that have a lot of votes.
Since Asana does not share a public roadmap it is difficult to say if and when which new features will be implemented, however they are really monitoring all feedback request threads and taking not only the total votes but also the total views into consideration
Just to list a few features implemented or soon to be implemented, that were threads with many votes: this, this and a long list here.
I think everybody on this forum has new features they definitely want/need (me included), however not everything might be that easy to implement or not on Asana‘s roadmap. One thing however should definitely be pointed out as well, which is that Asana has a forum (others don’t have or not as good) and that Asana is actually listening to their customers.
They even expanded the forum recently to introduce separate sections for more languages.
Is there room for further changes/improvements: yes there always can be, but in which company there isn‘t? Would be bad if not imo.
My org is planning for the rollout of the Work Capacity feature in Asana. In planning for this, we wondered if there is a way to include the calculation of office holidays? Any recommendations appreciated
This is a huge gap in the Work Capacity feature in Asana. There needs to be a way to schedule time off in the work capacity view to show that capacity is reduced for that specific time period and allow others to see that reduction in advance.
Thanks for highlighting this. IN general, I would love to black out dates in workload. Our team recently implemented a 4 day work week and now we are struggling to make workload work for our team.
I would love the ability to select the days of the week or year that the team won’t be working.
Hello everyone!
I was just planning ahead for some future time off I have coming up, and I thought of something. It would be great if there was a way to set your future out of office dates so that if people assign tasks to you during the time that you will be out of the office (some beach, somewhere), it will either reject the due date, flag the due date, send an alert… something! Not sure exactly what the best solution would be, but I just thought this would be a really awesome and helpful feature for managing work and tasks in Asana and keeping the rest of your team informed on days you will not be available to complete tasks.
If there is something like this already, or if anyone has suggestions on how to accomplish this, I’d love to hear it!
I agree, Kelsea. I’ve asked about this years ago. I don’t necessarily need any automatic reassigning as I have to work my schedule and priorities out for myself, but not allowing any task to be assigned when someone is set to be “out of office” would be AMAZING! Like you said, even just an alert or flagging so the assigner knows.
It would be helpful for my staff to be able to add their vacation time into Asana somehow so that when my PM is assigning due dates, the employee won’t get a task assigned during the time they are on vacation.
When establishing deadlines, it would be helpful to have weekend days and/or national holidays marked somehow on the calendar to be able to see how many working days one will have for a particular task. It would be especially helpful for holidays that change dates every year, e.g., MLK Day, Thanksgiving, etc.
Currently, we’re able to add in dates we will be away on Asana.
It would be suuuper helpful to get these features in:
Task assigner does not allow task to be assigned to someone who is unavailable during the time frame of task
Task assigner alerts task assigner when someone will no longer be available during time frame of task
Asana allows for the entering of “black out” dates where no task should be due or assigned because the team will not be available those days. Task assigner notifies when a task falls during this date and prompts a different date.
Asana’s scheduling limitations do not allow project personnel to account for “non-working” days. Non-working days can be weekends, holidays, PTO, or other days on which the project team and client have agreed that work will not be performed or due.
This feature is needed because many projects measure deliverable timelines in business days, not calendar days. For example: If a final product is due March 31st, 2023 and the client wants a draft product 30 days early, does this mean they expect a product on March 1st, or February 17th? The difference is quite significant.
Asana’s current feature set is disappointing that it doesn’t account for the basic function of allowing a project master calendar to be applied, something which many other project scheduling platforms do out-of-the-box. Thank you for looking int this.
Welcome to the Community Forum @Adam_Caruso! I agree this would be very helpful. Since there is an existing feedback request thread I have merged your post into that one. Don‘t forget to upvote at the top.
