Hi Asana Community! ![]()
We’re building a shared goals system for our team and have run into a challenge with notifications. I’d love your insights!
What we’re trying to do:
We want every team member to have full access to all goals — not just for viewing, but also to:
-
Link parent or child goals
-
Edit shared goals when needed
To achieve this, we’re currently adding everyone as Editors to all relevant goals.
What we want to avoid:
Because we add team members as Editors (which automatically makes them collaborators), they all receive:
-
Notifications in their Inbox when someone creates a new goal
-
Notifications when someone updates the status of a goal
This results in a flood of updates that aren’t always relevant to each person, since they’re not directly working on those goals.
What we’ve tried or considered:
-
We understand that view-only access (via public goals) avoids notifications — but it also limits team members from interacting with goals (e.g., no linking child/parent goals).
-
We’ve looked for a way to disable notifications per goal or turn off auto-notifications for collaborators, but haven’t found a setting for that.
-
There’s no “Unfollow” option for Goals like there is for tasks.
Our question:
Is there a way to give team members full edit access to a Goal — without triggering Inbox notifications — unless they explicitly follow or are assigned to it?
Or alternatively:
- Is there a setting or workaround that allows teammates to interact with a goal (add relationships, update fields) without being automatically notified of all changes?
Any ideas, tips, or even confirmation that this isn’t yet possible would be super helpful. ![]()
Thanks so much!
