Getting a Subtask to automatically home in the parent task project (setting up in a project template)

Ok team, got a head scratcher for you.

I have been asked by our business owner to accomplish this and I cannot figure out how to make this work.

We have a Project Template called “New Job” and within this “New Job” project, there is a task called “Job Info” with a subtask titled “Job Pictures”.

I have been asked to find a way of getting “Job Pictures” to live ALSO as a task within the “New Job” (ie, still be a subtask of “Job Info” but also a parent task visible within the project).

You may wonder why we want this, but the short answer is that for some of our users, finding it within the job’s Project is MUCH easier, and for others, finding it within the “Job Info” task is much easier. We have many users using various devices, of various software comfort level, etc and having this would make life simpler for everyone.

We are aware that we can just open the project and click on “Files” tab on a PC, but you don’t seem to have that ability on any of the mobile app versions.

Hi @Matt5,

This can be accomplished by opening the subtask “Job Pictures” and in the detail pane click the ellipsis (three dots) and select “Add to projects.” Select the project “New Job” - it will then appear at both levels. You can also use Tab P.

Best,

Jeremy

Jeremy, forgive me, perhaps I wasn’t as clear as I should be but I am not talking about basic things like that. I am asking how to make this automatic, from Projects that are created from a Project Template.

We launch far too many of these projects for someone to have to have on their checklist to go dig up that task and home it to the parent project. I am hoping to find a way of automating this.

Trying to do this from within the project template doesn’t work from what I can see.

I don’t think you can. Even with rules, where we could, those rules don’t trigger on project creation…
