Formulas and Rollup for Formulas: A Game Changer for Asana

Hi everyone!

I’m Vicente, a Corporate Account Executive at Asana! Today I wanted to share a tip about my favorite Asana feature in 2024.

One of the features that excited me the most this year was the formulas and rollup for formulas in the Portfolio view. Those features dramatically enhance project tracking, data analysis, and budgeting. These tools offer advanced customisation and flexibility, turning Asana to a powerful data-driven platform that can help teams make more informed decisions, improve workflow efficiency, and streamline project tracking. Formulas allow users to perform calculations directly within Asana, creating dynamic fields that adjust based on the data entered in other fields, removing the need of an Excel spreadsheet. For example, you can create a formula to calculate the total cost of a project by multiplying the number of hours worked by the hourly rate of team members.

The introduction of Rollup for Formulas also allows users to aggregate data across multiple task and bring this up to a Portfolio level, creating a snapshot of the key initiatives and making the decision maker process easier and faster. The combination of formulas and Rollup for formulas also boosts team collaboration. Because these features allow project data to be automatically calculated and updated, team members spend less time on manual tracking and can focus more on high-priority tasks. This leads to better project outcomes and a more efficient allocation of resources. As teams can see real-time data, they can more easily collaborate on critical decisions, identifying risks and opportunities before they escalate. Moreover, by reducing the need for manual updates, formulas and Rollup for formulas can help maintain accuracy and consistency across large teams or complex projects.

I recommend you introducing Formulas to your projects and portfolios in Asana!
