Feedback on the new design of code blocks

What have they done to my boy? :pleading_face:

I would like to encourage someone at Asana to revisit the recent changes to code blocks in descriptions and Pages.

Code blocks are not just for code. They are also very useful for snippets of text you want to copy/paste quickly. The new design takes up a lot more vertical space, especially for single-line content.

The second issue: see the “-hidden” in the code block above? It is not possible to place your cursor on a word in that area, because of the pop-up that will appear as soon as you hover over the code block.

It would be great to get a more compact version of the code block back - ideally with a better UX for the language/copy pop-up.

Yeah, I’d like to see some improvements like those suggested above also.

  • Don’t obscure text; other treatments in apps dynamically show the copy button when hovering over the code block.
  • Add a toggle for wrapping for no-wrapping on a block-by-block basis.

I agree with this feedback. The new code blocks feel too large for short text, and the hover pop-up makes editing harder than before.

Urgh yes, this new style is really annoying, please revert it or make the new style optional. Perhaps the old style could become a new type of block like a ‘callout’ or ‘panel’, or something like that.
