Hi @orvn,
FYI Desksana is in active development - I’m hoping to start a limited closed beta next month - and it has basically all of the benefits in your bullet points (well, except for localization; that will have to wait for later releases).

@Phil_Seeman
That’s awesome, I actually just signed up earlier today when I saw your comment (either earlier in this forum discussion, or in a related thread).
I’d love to be on the beta if you’re not full yet!
The sign-up page is now at https://prana.apparentsoft.com. I didn’t even remember that there was thing older link. That being said, the project is a bit on hiatus now, as Asana itself is a constantly moving target and we have limited resources at the moment.
Thanks @Jacob_Gorban, yeah that makes sense. Asana’s features are always moving.
That’s too bad though, hopefully you guys engage the product again soon.
I took a look at the site and while I like the idea of this, the overall UI looks nothing like asana. Not that you are building their app for them, but the emotional and visual response that asana brings does not really happen for me with an Excel type of UI. Is this going to change?
Hi @Will,
You are correct, there’s no intention or attempt for Desksana to replicate the Asana UI.
That said, it will include a lot of functionality not currently available in Asana (offline use, full subtask outlining, better display of subtasks assigned to a project, more powerful and flexible My Tasks, true desktop notifications, just to name a few).
This is a GO/no-GO for many companies when evaluating Asana vs other options in the market.
We’ve got several employees who would really like a desktop Asana app for Mac. Any news on whether or not Asana is going to do this?
Just got a personal account because my company wanted me to explore it’s viability for project tracking. I spent so much time trying to find the download link for the native app before I realized it didn’t exist. Then I found this thread. Wow. This thread has been going for YEARS. Clearly they have no interest in realizing their potential. I think they’re doing just enough to get acquired by a monolith, because this is a dealbreaker for most businesses and they won’t even acknowledge the need, much less address it.
@anon78559185 I agree with a lot of this as it is and has been one of the most requested items for asana, Even if it was a really good web wrapper it would be something, so we have can have native OS level controls and keep the app open. Being able to quick entry something from a keyboard shortcut and a pop up window would do wonders!!
It’s sort of like yelling into a pillow right now asking for this
Upvoted and adding my voice of support to a desktop app of some description. Although a lot of people give very valid reasons way way way way back in this thread (2017 ), it has becoming particularly important in #TheseUncertainTimes™. Working full time at home (along with my wife) and two kids screaming all-day long, I really really need something that quickly demarcates work from home, instead of having Asana buried somewhere in a zillion open tabs. Something I can close at the end of the day to signify ‘yes, I’ve done my work’. Zoom (along with Slack and Trello and many others) does a great job of this with its stand-alone MacOS app. I’m sure Asana can do much the same.
So I guess there is some good news here that it looks/sounds like there IS a desktop app of some sorts that is in the works. Honestly I don’t know what it is or can/can not do…but something is in the works.
Hopefully this will come soon!
Not sure how much good it’s going to do seeing as this thread has been open for ages with not much progress, but +1 here that a desktop is needed to allow Asana to cut above the clutter that is my normal Chrome window. 3 others on my exec team agree that this is a big missed feature that other comparable tools have, and personally it’s a big miss coming from Meistertask, which is inferior in pretty much every other area except they have a great desktop app.
Fantastic - using Fluid and its great!
Another vote for a desktop app - please!!
Yes! Please! A native desktop app for Apple would be most appreciated.
YES! Please mac os app!
Phil,
As asana is changing so rapidly, would it not best to just have a wrapper, like Electron? Add support for icon notification and switching between orgs easily (like Slack). Rather than putting a lot on top that may be impacted by asana later?
That is one philosophy, for sure, and you might see that implemented at some point.
My desktop-app-in-development, Desksana, is actually also based on Electron (hence my ability to produce a Windows and Mac version at the same time), but I’ve opted to tackle the (difficult!) feature of offline capability, which goes beyond doing a simple Electron wrapper.
What can I say, I like doing hard things.
Love to help QA.
