When a user creates a new rule, the default Settings for “Controls” have toggles ON for:
Run on subtasks
Trigger via other rules
I think it would make more sense, for new users especially, if these settings were toggled OFF by default. New users tend not to look at the Settings options when they are first tackling rules, and these settings are not what they expect.
Problems resulting from “Run on subtasks” are described well in this forum post:
Regarding “Trigger via other rules” – new users who are just learning about rules are not going to jump right in to make rules trigger other rules, and having this setting ON is likely to get them into trouble with unexpected actions and infinite loops.
If these two settings were OFF by default, rule behavior would be more intuitive for new users and advanced users already know to check their settings before publishing a rule.
Hi @Roxanna_N , there is already this thread for one of the two requests you are making here:
If you are able to edit your posts, would you like to repurpose this thread to just focus the request for ‘Trigger via other rules’ to be switched off by default, instead of combining two requests into one?
(I understand these are under one settings panel, but it’s two settings you are asking to change)
I copied my comments about “Run on Subtasks” to the other thread. I’d be happy to delete this post, but I do not have permission to do it. If you are you able to delete it, please do.
At some time in the future, I might re-post thoughts about the setting “Trigger via other rules” when I have time to thoroughly describe examples of problems, but for now I have been more concerned about the subtask setting.
