Creating a new project using a CSV export from a previous project. All the tasks were imported successfully, but some columns and all team members are missing in this project.
while exporting, I didn’t see any option to select anything.
@Omer_Buttt - when you say some columns are missing, do you mean you don’t see them in the new imported project? Could you share examples of which columns are missing? I’m trying to determine if they are system fields or your own custom fields.
And, when you imported the CSV, on the next screen, did you click “Make Changes” or did you immediately click “Go To Project”? If you were aiming to map info to existing fields that are already in Asana, you need to click “Make Changes” before finalizing the import, and then Asana will allow you to map your import fields to existing Asana fields.
And, lastly, when you say all team members are missing, are you saying the assignees didn’t work, or do you mean the list of members from the top right of the project, the people who are simply able to see the project?
I’m aiming to determine exactly what the issues were so as to provide you a specific, helpful answer.
You might also benefit from reviewing thoroughly these help center articles:
1st screenshot shows the imported project from the main project (Screenshot 2). You can clearly see that many columns are missing in the imported project.
I also tried again by pressing the “Make Changes” button before this time as you mentioned, but the issue remains the same.
Regarding the members, I am referring to the list of members in the top right corner. You can clearly see that all the people are missing in the imported project.
Did all the colums and members automatically upload with CSV?
@Omer_Buttt -
Regarding the custom fields, my initial guess here would be that maybe you don’t have adequate permissions in the account where you are creating the newly imported project.
Are you a guest in that account?
Is it a paid or free acount?
Regarding the project members: no, CSV exports do not support exporting/importing project members. But, CSV exports/imports DO support assignees. It will use the email of the user to match to the correct assignee.
@Bryan_TeamKickstart okay thanks! I figured that out, and you are correct. I just tried with “Admin” account and I got all the custom fields back with csv import.
but why basic free members cannot perform the same process if they are the project creators in both projects—specifically, the project where the CSV export is done and the project where the CSV should be imported?
@Omer_Buttt - custom fields are a paid feature, and guests and free users can’t add them to projects. So, importing via CSV will not create custom fields if done by a guest or free user because they are exclusively a paid feature.
