There have already been 2 posts I’ve found with this request, but both have been closed, despite the actual feature not existing in the desired fashion.
We want a way in which to show a specific custom field, only if another custom field in the same task has a certain value.
E.g., if Custom Field A has a dropdown option chosen of Option 1, then Custom Field B will reveal itself.
Even if all of the fields remaining on the page for every task but were just automatically greyed out if not relevant, that would be a big step forward in this regard.
@FreshyJon - Hey there! This is an interesting request, and I think there are a few different ways to approach it. For example, you could add tasks to secondary projects that have the conditional custom fields (Custom Field B) using rules triggered by the main custom field (Custom Field A). Alternatively, you could set rules to update the conditional field (Custom Field B) directly based on the triggering field (Custom Field A) all in the same project.
Would you be able to share a bit more about your specific use case so we can better understand how to help?
I think most of us are aware of workarounds to make this “seem” to work, but they’re all quite clunky and add unnecessary rules and projects.
In my specific use-case, we’re using Asana as a make-shift CRM.
We have a project for “Leads” to populate into, where we then set a dropdown for the “lead source”. If the Lead Source was a certain dropdown value (such as “Acquisition”), then we want a separate dropdown to appear where we can then choose what Acquisition Company it came from.
For now, we’ll just add this second dropdown to the project, but that means it shows regardless of Lead Type, and in some rare cases, someone may fill it out, even though it should only be filled out if the Lead Source was set to Acquisition.
Which also brings me back to a feature request of “required” fields…
