Client View For projects with limited task showing

For projects my team and I will have many task that I prefer not to have shown to client along with interactions between my team and I for those task. However I’d love to create a section for each project for “Client View” that has task that are client facing. For example when we get ready for client approvals we drop the file inside a task in there for them and they can approve or deny. OR, if we just want to keep the client informed on timelines we can set a progress status element in there for them to know where things are in the process and ask questions in the discussion from there.

The only things I’m finding is they can view only, and they’ll be able to see the WHOLE project. which I don’t want. But, I also don’t want to have to us another system to just manage things that Asana should have capabilities to do.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome, @Grant_Gaither,

Asana offers different approach, many of which are linked in the topic below, and the links included therein. Have a look and feel free to follow-up here if unclear.

Thanks,

based on those options and everything it doesn’t seem like there is a really “good” way to handle client interaction within Asana.

We had a system of workflow then Asana changed things up focusing more portfolios and projects rather than task flow. Since then we’ve adapted a system to have portfolios for clients, and then for larger projects we’ll create out a project using templates we created for project type. For small one off things that are more task focused we have a “Marketing” project that just handles all the small things that client request. If there was a way for that client to only see things in the project they are assigned to in collaboration or using a custom field that would be the easiest thing I feel as we can create a subtask or separate task for client communications without having to adapt a whole new workflow for my team.

After searching some more I saw where if the project is set to private and a user isn’t on the team for the project they will only see the task assigned to them. BUT, has the functionality of them knowing the project or the main task title ( for subtitles) show for them to have reference?
Example:

  • Clients Cool Name
  • --- Task: Update content on home page of website

  • -----------subtask: Client Review for approval

Will they see all the layers or just “client review for approval”? because if it’s the later then it’ll be very hard for them to know what they are reviewing.

An assignee or collaborator of a task will see the task and subtasks, but won’t see project membership if they don’t have access to the project.

You can test this yourself with your regular login and another with a gmail or other non-domain email.

Thanks,

Larry
