Chrome Extension Login panel shown up every time opening a new page/tab

I’m encountering an issue today that the Asana for Chrome extension login panel always shown up when I open a new page/tab in Chrome.
And actually, the login button not working, nor I’m already logged in.
This hasn’t happened until yesterday, happening from today.
Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Hi @Masa_Hagiwara , it happened to me and I just hid the panel by clicking the X sign on the top right corner.
We’ll check internally what’s happening.

We flagged the issue internally.

It seems that the Asana Chrome extension, which was just updated yesterday (7th), is playing the mischief. After the new version is published in the Chrome web store, the update timing varies from user to user.

This affects both /asana.com/* and subdomains /*.asana.com/*, including apps.asana.com and forum.asana.com.

We can suppress the login pane by disabling the extension from the extensions menu (chrome://extensions/), even though we won’t be able to use the extension’s usual features.

From my experience of building some extensions, it takes some time (often days) for Google to review the code and let us publish a new version. Thank you for your patience in the meantime.

Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing:

The Asana for Chrome sidebar keeps appearing and asking me to log in even though I’m already logged into Asana. (See screenshot.)

It appears on any page in Asana itself (ie: app.asana.com URLs) and also even on this forum (ie: forum.asana.com URLs).

Clicking the “Log in” button causes my browser to navigate to Asana’s main page (Log in - Asana), where I am already logged in. The side bar pops up on this page too.

I tried turning off the extension, and the side bar stopped appearing.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install the Asana extension for Chrome.
  2. Navigate to any app.asana.com or forum.asana.com page.

Browser version:

I am experiencing this on 2 computers:

Chrome Version 116.0.5845.140 (Official Build) (arm64) on macOS
Chrome Version 115.0.5790.170 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Linux

Asana extension (khnpeclbnipcdacdkhejifenadikeghk) version 2.2.0

What version of Asana are you using (Basic/Premium/Business/Enterprise)?

Premium organization

Upload screenshots below:

@Forum-team, @Vanessa_N,

I’ve experienced the same thing exactly as reported. It’s also been raised by others in Slack.

I’ve dismissed the dialog dozens of times already and expect to dozens more and would like to understand how to turn it off permanently.

If this is the user experience, I feel it should be disabled by Asana immediately until it can be made less obtrustive.

Thanks,

Larry

Thanks for the temporary solution, @Shun_Sakurai! I also edited your post to add a line at the top so I could raise your post to the top when folks look here until it’s fixed entirely, which will be days as you explain.

Dear Asana users,

The new version 2.2.1 was published in the Chrome web store and the bug has been fixed :mending_heart:

If you have it installed on your browser, the version is automatically updated.
If you want the new version immediately, try one of the following:

  • Restart the browser
  • Uninstall the Asana extension once and reinstall it, or
  • From chrome://extensions/, enable “Developer mode” and click “Update”
