šŸ’” Change column function

I completely missed this feature from several months ago!

In Asana, when you have number custom fields in a project, you get a nice sum of values displayed at the bottom of columns. Did you know you can actually choose other functions to replace the sum, for example average, max, min, count? I did not, this was my latest discovery :slightly_smiling_face:

To change the function, just click on the arrow next to the column header and click on ā€œChange column functionā€.

And no you can’t customize the function (yet?).

Hehe yes indeed very nice feature. Figured it out a view weeks ago and been using it since then. Very helpful

Is there a way to disable the column function (per column)?

What about ā€œChange column function > Noneā€?

Hi Bastien, seems logical, but I do not see that option. I may be looking in the wrong place ofcourse.

@Bastien_Siebman never mind, got it. At top of the column, and I was looking at the bottom where you can also change the options …
Thx!

This is great except have others had problems with changes to this setting not sticking? My column is of numbers that correspond to row numbers on a spreadsheet. Asana thinks I want to sum them when in fact I don’t need any summary at all. When I open the project and change to ā€œnoneā€ the summary disappears but every time I click away from the project and then back to it, the sum feature is selected again. Thoughts?

Welcome, @Heidi_Magario,

Thanks,

Thank you! I think I clicked every place except there. So when I make changes to tasks everyone sees the changes but if I make changes to … other things, I’ll see that blue dot show up indicating I need to save it for everyone?

Yes, that’s basically it.

Changing the content is visible to all immediately (in a second or two).

Changing the view (sorting, filtering, hiding/showing/reordering columns, etc.) is visible just to you and only so long as it’s active in your browser. If you’re changing the view for the purpose of setting the default for everyone, then lock it in.

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks,

Larry
