Cannot add teams

Hi there,
I am an intermediate level Asana user, and working on setting up a test account as a proposal for my company to make the switch. I am having some issues adding “teams” to the account. In my research, it looks like there is a button for “create new team,” that my account is missing. See screenshots of where I should be able to “create new team.”

Note that I am using a free account to set up the test, and I am using my personal gmail, not my work email.

Any help for setting up teams??
Our current project management is very team-focused, so I would love to build the test with this feature.

Thank you!
-Eva

Hi,
I think it can be two ways: you are in a Workspace and not an Organization OR you are not the admin of your space.
Have a look at Asana FAQs and common questions | Product Guide • Asana Product Guide

Hi @Eva_Wong and welcome to the Forum!

If you don’t see the option to create a Team, it’s probably because you’re using a Workspace! Have a look at the article shared by @Bastien_Siebman just above to learn more about differences between a WS and an Org!

@Bastien_Siebman, in an Organisation all members can create Teams, it doesn’t require to be an Admin

I’ll go to bed being less dumb (that is a French expression, that does not translate well :man_shrugging:)

Hello is it possible to add teams to Workspaces? We decided to delete the Organisation; there was a ton of secuirty issues; (members getting access to boards they shouldn’t have; customers being able to contact and see all employees, employees being able to see all over employees etc)

No, there are no teams possible in Workspaces, only in Organizations.

Sorry,

Larry

I’ve been trying to add two people without company emails to my team for almost a month now. Even tried from another desktop. I emailed on 7/28 and have yet to get a response or resolution so I started setting up camp in ClickUp. Anyone know how to fi this issue before I abandon Asana?

Welcome to the Asana Community Forum @Maleeka_T_Hollaway

Do you have a Workspace or Organization?
If you have an organization are you the main admin? If not I recommend checking with them on whether they have restricted inviting new people, see https://asana.com/guide/help/organizations/guests#gl-guest-collaboration, https://asana.com/guide/help/permissions/team-permissions#gl-limit-access

I once had a situation where I added somebody, but they did not receive an invite email so I asked them to just go to asana.com, forget password to receive the password reset email. Then upon logging in all was fine for them. However in your case it seems to be the case that you cannot at all add people.

Do you see any error message?

Hi Andrea,
A few weeks ago a message saying “Cannot add team member. Please contact support” popped up. Now, nothing happens.

Hm I see, that is strange indeed. However support should definitely be able to assist @Maleeka_T_Hollaway

Hey @Maleeka_T_Hollaway
did this get resolved?

Thanks @lpb but how do I move from “WS” to “Org”. Do I need a work email to do that?

Welcome, @Lewis_Ofoe,

Yes, you need an email with a domain name that’s not a generic one, meaning not gmail.com or outlook.com, for example.

Logging into Asana that way will put you in an “Org” with others with the same email domain name, or create that org if you are the first one.

If you do that, and then want to transfer the projects and other info from your old Workspace, you can contact Support who may be able to help you, or use ditto.kothar.net (but read the Caveats there; not everything transfers).

For some more info:

Thanks,

Larry

I left out the following; you may be able to do this yourself:
