Yes, you can set all tasks start/due date based on start/due date set on the project. This works only upon project creation from an available project template.

Thanks Bryan but I am still not able to do.. may be I am not working on correct lines.. I created a project with tasks under sections. Then saved that project as template and set due dates based on my start date.. when I used this template in my new project, no schedule dates are appearing. can you share your steps of setting up such projects or templates?

Hi @Suruchi_Kakkar, Yes, you can set a schedule based on a start date, but the key is that template task dates must be set as relative dates (not fixed dates), and you must set a project start or end date when you create the new project from the template.

Steps:

  1. In your template project, set a project date range (start and end) or a due date in the Progress tab.
  2. Set each task’s due date as a relative date (for example, “3 days after project start” or “2 days before project due date”).
  3. Save the project as a template (Project header dropdown → Convert to Template).
  4. When creating a new project from that template, choose a start date or end date, and confirm whether to skip weekends - then Asana schedules all tasks.

If you don’t pick a start or end date during project creation, the scheduled dates won’t appear.

Thank you for guiding on this. I am working on it. Can you let me know if we can have 2 fields for due date - First one will have due dates based on our template and second field of Due date to have new dates when start dat changes?
