Can a form submission trigger a project template?

We would like our form submission to trigger a new project template. Is this possible?

Thank you!

To my best knowledge, I don’t think so. However, once the task got created, you can convert the task to project.

I was thinking about doing similar thing but realize that form is typically used in a request type of work (e.g., bugs, content request, etc.), it is really not suit for “project” type of workflow. I end up breaking my process into two phases – first phases for intake form allowing submitters to submit and the process owner will review these intakes and then create project (either manually or possible through automation).

Can you clarify whether you mean create a new project template or instantiate a new project from a project template?

If the former, then no, that’s not available in Asana. If the latter, then @Huiping gave you the best answer which is that you can create a new project based on a selected project template from the task that the form creates.

Yes, as @Phil_Seeman said, but to clarify, there’s nothing stopping you from setting up a rule to do this straightaway and automatically upon form submission.

You do that by a rule triggered by a task added to the project by a form, with the action being Convert task to project using a template.

You may prefer to have user intervention before this happens, but nothing is stopping you from setting it up this way.

Thanks,

How to do this? I’m looking at actions, I can’t find one that converts a task to a project based on a template. I’d love to be able to do this. Does the project have to have a form associated to it before the action appears in the list of available actions?

ah ha!! brilliant. If there is a form attached, and you select task is added to this project by form then lo, the convert task to project action appears in the list. Wonderful Thank You!

Why isn’t convert task an option for non-form methods of adding tasks?

@Mike_O_Dell, I’m glad this will help.

I’m not seeing that; I can use the Convert task to project action in other circumstances:

Thanks,

Larry
