Auto Schedule in Gantt View

Hi @Emily_Roman,

In the image, Project Creation and Load to MRM are dependent on Approved by Client, however the dates do not auto adjust. Approved by Client is not set to complete until 4/12, but Project Creation and Load to MRM are set to complete by today.

Please advise, thanks,

Vinita

@Vinita_Ramnani - what dependency management setting do you have on (you can check this by using the three dots near the top right of any project view)? If you have “maintain buffer” set, this should work as long as you’re updating dates in gantt/timeline (or clicking the blue “Update” button in a list due date before changing the date).

If you have “consume buffer” set, dates will not adjust if there is already a data collision (i.e., if a dependent either precedes or begins on the due date of its predecessor). If you have “non” set, no due dates will ever change based on dependencies.

My gut instinct is that your Creation and Load tasks began on/before the approval due date when you set it up and you have “consume buffer” set. I typically use “maintain buffer” to avoid this, but you could also make sure that your tasks don’t overlap during setup.

Hi @Stephen_Li yes I do have the “maintain buffer” set.

If the tasks do overlap during setup shouldn’t they auto adjust when any of the dependencies shift?

Thanks,
Vinita

@Vinita_Ramnani - ok, if you have “maintain buffer”, it should move dependent tasks regardless of overlap. I just tested this in my environment and it worked for me. E.g., i have Task 1 precede Task 2. I manually set the due dates so Task 1 ends after Task 2 starts. When I move either task around on the gantt, the other task moves by the same amount.

If that is not happening for you, you might be experiencing a bug, which you can report using these steps.

Thanks @Stephen_Li , do you move the tasks around by adjusting the duration on the Gantt view?

@Vinita_Ramnani - that is one way. You can also drag them around on the Gantt or use the date field to enter new dates. I believe all methods should work more or less the same.
