Assignee to be a group?

Hello everyone

Many times we have projects that are being looked by different teams together. Can we assign a task or project to assignee which will be a group email ID and not an individual? Group email includes team members from different teams.

Looking for a fix from ASANA!

I have heard that it can be done.
There should be a post somewhere within the forum, though I am unable to locate it immediately.

This may prove to be of some assistance.

@Suruchi_Kakkar Welcome to the forums!Tasks can only be assigned to a single user, and that’s intentional. When multiple people are assigned to the same task, it often creates ambiguity around ownership and accountability.

There are a few good ways to handle collaboration, depending on the situation:

  • Add collaborators to the task. Collaborators receive updates and notifications about activity on the task, and this can be automated with rules so it doesn’t require manual effort. In most cases, this is the preferred approach.

  • Use subtasks when multiple people need to complete work. If several individuals each have responsibilities tied to a larger task, create subtasks and assign each one to the appropriate person. This keeps ownership clear while still organizing related work together.

The key principle is that every task should have one clearly identified owner who is responsible for driving the work to completion. That person should be the assignee. Any supporting work should be broken into subtasks with their own assignees, while stakeholders or team members who simply need visibility can be added as collaborators.

Hi, @Suruchi_Kakkar .
This topic has been discussed for a long time, so please refer to the resources provided here.

Hi, @Ron_Sanga .
Your explanation is correct. A little more advice might make it easier to understand.

Hi, @Suruchi_Kakkar .
I may have jumped to conclusions and replied prematurely.
Assigning multiple people to a single task is a limitation of Asana, so it would be difficult to implement.

An alternative method is as @Ron_Sanga mentioned in his response.

However, I do have several ideas regarding your original request.
If you could provide more details about your request, I might be able to offer more specific ideas.

One idea I have is:
a. Create a group called Project A.
b. In Project A’s rules, create a “Link to Task” task for each member(s) when a task is added.
