Unlikely…this is one request Asana has been fairly clear about never intending to change.
Just keep encouraging them
THIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED
Wow, it’s been years since this was requested, how does Asana still not support this??
@Dan_Gualtieri , it’s not a comprehensive implementation of the feature request in this thread, but just FYI about this feature that was released this August: Introducing People Custom Field! 👥 It does address this need to some extent, while sparing us as Asana users from some of the drawbacks of multiple assignees, which others have sited above in this thread.
This is a workable solution that makes sense to me.
I’ve been looking at this and we have just started using Asana, not being able to have multiple assignees IS A PROBLEM. The fact that this has been an issue for so many after 5 years of this post and Asana hasnt listened concerns me somewhat. It needs to be an option. The world has changed in 2022 especialky agile working, i just want to assign a team or people to a task and let them work away and update it. Assigning a task to a delivery manager or project manager just adds all the tasks to them and not to the team to take on.
Best thing add the field owner, and change the assignee to have multiple people in it.
doesnt solve the problem unfortunately as it doesnt assign tasks or even notify people etc. Bit of a pointless addition
For me, it would already be helpful, to optimize the “collaborators” feature.
Now, collaborators don’t get notifications if a deadline is near and they also don’t see tasks with their collaboration in most of the views.
If collaborators also saw such tasks in the view “my tasks” or in the board view, it maybe wouldn’t be necessary to allow multiple assignees.
A workaround that we have started using. We have the primary task owner that is the one responsible for ensuring that the task is complete on time. And then we are using the custom people field to list who else is responsible. It doen’st make something show on the my tasks. but it does allow a visiblity to who is all responsible and if the task owner is out of the office who the go to person is for questions.
It’s a new implementation, but I’m hoping this helps alleviate my teams desire to at times having more than one person assigned a task.
Jumping in with my thoughts, but I like an idea from way back up in the thread about having a primary assignee and then multiple other assignees. Adding collaborators is annoying because while they get inbox notifications, they don’t have the tasks listed under “my tasks” and we spend so much time trying to figure out workarounds and creating duplicates as subtasks or other silly things that waste so much time. It would be must more efficient and still keep the “one person is responsible” idea going if this feature were included. I really think it’s the best of both worlds.
Exactly. “Primary Assignee”-task shows up in their My Tasks and they can complete the task. “Secondary Assignee’s”-task shows up in their My Tasks but they cannot complete the task, Or something a long those lines…I really don’t understand what is so hard about this.
Wow this was suggested back in 2017 and I’m sad to see no movement on Asana’s side.
With remote collaboration more prevalent than ever, it’s a reality that multiple people should (could) be accountable for a single task.
If there are coding issues due to a single assignee, I agree there should be a primary assignee, and then multiple “secondary assignees” that get the task(s) added to their todo.
That’s should be left up to the team decisions without assuming that all companies have to work like this. Reality is not black and white but it has shadows…
-
There are shared project where would be politically dangerous to assign only one person as assegnee. These tasks are forced now not to have any asegnee and don’t show up on the assigned task list.
-
There are tasks where “the first that manages to do it will do it”
-
There are secondary tasks where the leadership is changed frequently as there are not dedicated resources.
-
and much more… It feels sad to chose an app where the most upvoted request is abruptly ignored
I understand the one assignee idea but as many has said it should be up to the teams to decide.
However the issue we have is that we are a team of people working on a main task and we want everyone to be notified of updates in that task as well as being able to easily find that in their “My Tasks” list. Unfortunately the subtask design and navigation is poor so it makes it difficult to manage.
One example is when we are collaborating on calculating a budget split for a job we all work on the same task in this case we are now having to create subtasks so that no one forgets to do their part and for them to get it listed in their my tasks list. However to find the details and to give our project manager a good overview we need to click the subtask and then navigate back to the main task to collaborate.
The more people custom field is a great addition but it doesnt make that task a part of that individuals My task list nor do they receive notifications unless we add them to the main task as a collaborator.
The “My tasks” list could solve this by presenting subtasks more clearly as part of a main task in the “My tasks” list and also improving on the UI in tasks so that it is more clear that there are subtasks and what main task they belong too.
Switch to another program. That’s the solution… sometimes i look to this forum to see it something has changed but the situation is always stuck.
It it sad that thee are people think they are ambassador of every reality… and that they try to impose their view to others.
There are cases where a team has to work together and both need to see the due date in their feeds for the same project.
As a software developer, I don’t think this would be a hard addition to make.
Really it’s just making it so assigning/unassigning has a one to many relationship between task and people.
You can also add yourself as a collaborator on a task, although I am not sure that solves the problem
The collaborator field is strictly a notification field. It has zero affect on “My tasks”. Right now its either duplicate a task, or assign redundant subtasks to multi-assign both of which have their own respective issues.
