Any workarounds (or hacks) to sort Timeline by a custom date field

I am desperate to sort my timeline by custom fields. The original 2019 question needs to be resurfaced:

Timeline sorting by custom field

When viewing the timeline, I want to sort tasks by custom field so that the custom field can be used as swimlanes. See this gif from the Timeline article for reference: [9cbe43]

I use Asana to assign tasks to teams. Due date becomes their delivery date. I added a Launch Date custom field hoping to provide leadership with a launch timeline. No such luck.

Is there timing to add custom fields under timeline sort? If not, does anyone have a hack-around they use?

You can set a timeframe in the datepicker by picking a start and end date. This way you can sort your list bei start date or end date and don’t need a custom field.

Yeah - same issue here, cannot get this to work. All my tasks in a project has a start date and due date, however, when sorting after start date, the timeline legend to the left disappear, apparently it would seem, that the timeline considers that there is a start date sometime a long ago in the past although that is not the case
