Allow "Unspecified" as a Valid Single-select option in Rule Creation

I’m running into some issues when making rules in Asana where I want the rule to either make a selection blank in a custom Single-select list as to indicate it needs to be re-chosen by a user, or check if a selection is blank to know that I need the rule to set it. However, when you leave it as “unspecified”, Asana won’t allow you to create the rule until you pick a specific list item that was created.

I.e. When the task is added to a project, I want to check if the field is blank. If so, then set as “TBD”, but if not, then do nothing and leave it as it currently is.

I’m sure I could get around it if I tried with AI, but this really shouldn’t be the answer on this one.

Thanks.

Hi @ThomasM , in the Rule’s Do this action or Check if condition, look for the additional dropdown options on the right, instead of the default ‘is set to’, or even Clear value, or is not value x, or is empty. etc.

@ThomasM As this is existing functionality I’ve moved the topic to Tips and Tricks

@Richard_Sather is correct in stating this is existing functionality.

Adding a screenshot for clarity.
