AI vs AI Studio credits

I have a few things to try to clarify with Asana’s AI. We have an Advanced account that just burned through 75k credits. I’m trying to get a better understanding of what actually cost credits as when i look at billing its only showing workflows/rules. I’m specifically looking for answers to the following questions.

  1. If i create a rule but toggle off Asana Studio on the bottom and just determine the when/check if etc on my own without using the asana studio prompt box does that cost credits everytime a rule is run?
  2. If a project is created using Asana AI. (not seeing a AI studio icon anywhere) and im using a prompt box to tell asana what i want to build does that use credits?
  3. Does updating project status using AI and a prompt (not seeing AI studio noted) does that take credits?
  4. Does using Slack AI integration to check on projects/portfolios use credits?
  5. Does Claude integration extension app to get project/portfolio updates use Asana AI Studio Credits?
  6. Does using Claude extension app to build projects use Asana AI studio credits?
  7. Does Shutting off the AI Studio for the full organization stop use for the slack/claude/status updates as mentioned above?

Thanks so much. If feels like this is a bit of a black hole. I do appreciate the 📈 Mind your AI Studio credit efficiency! page for more context but still a bit of an enigma!

@Kate_Goldsmith2,

The answer is “no” to all your questions.

AI Studio only exists within rules, and only when you toggle it on in a rule.

Thanks,

Larry

great news and thank you for the clarity

Thanks for the very confident answer there Larry! I was wondering about this, as there is some ambiguity between what we see within Asana, and what appears in the online articles. For example, I recently got an AI feature to do a full project retrospective and this apparently took zero credits. It seems nonsensical that using AI to perform (for example) a conditional check in a rule would use credits, but a detailed and thorough dissection of hundreds of tasks would use none. Do you have any insight into that please?

Hi @Adam_Bennett,

I’m afraid I don’t, as I don’t work for Asana and have no expertise in pricing!

I imagine that Asana would want to recoup/profit in some cases and provide simplicity and built-in benefits in others.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi @lpb I got to the bottom of this. There is a difference between Asana AI (available within tool and uncharged) and AI Studio (used for rules and is charged). I didn’t appreciate that separation at the time.

I’m glad it’s clear, @Adam_Bennett.

Since the earlier posts, Asana has released AI Teammates, a new feature entirely, very different from AI Studio, but like AI Studio, it is credit-based too.

Thanks,

Larry
