Add a ⭐ 'Starred’ mode to the new sidebar redesign (2025)

What I’m missing from the new sidebar redesign is a ‘Starred’ mode where you could pick and mix any objects in Asana to create your own ‘personal’ mode, more importantly being able to combine Portfolios, Projects and Teams.

I think this would address one of the main issues I’m hearing from customers I work with and members in this forum. This would simply negate any current friction as it would provide the same navigation preference that I assume many users already have, which is to just use the Starred section.

Currently, one needs to switch between Work and Company mode to jump between project/portfolios and Teams. And this is the main problem that has ‘broken’ the way that I work and several of my customers, too.

Additionally, the ability to star My tasks would be great so that it’s not exclusively only available in Work mode.

Finally, I would imagine the Starred mode would be the only mode that many, if not most users, would need at all, and therefore the additional option to hide the ‘rail’ (mini sidebar of modes) would offer an experience very similar to what we have all been accustomed to for the past few years, since the last redesign.

(so for the power users that want ‘more’ and use many features, they could opt to have the rail of modes open all the time, if that suits them)

Let us star anything in one sidebar! :folded_hands:

Yes, a lot to like about the new sidebar redesign, but having starred items separated across different modes is disruptive to efficient user experience. Having a dedicated Starred ‘mode’ makes so much sense for navigating between key personal resources, without having to click multiple times through the modes.

I concur and hope others will add their votes too.

Vote added! Starred mode would be a great first step to making this much more useable. I do think something like “modes” is an essential direction for Asana. The bigger and more powerful a software gets, the more splitting up Asana’s tools into “modes” of using the software becomes essential.

We use heavy creative software like Adobe’s Premiere Pro and I need a certain tool set and workspace for “editing” mode vs “coloring” mode. Those modes can each be set up according to a user’s needs.

Eventually Asana allowing us to setup and customize multiple personalized modes would be fantastic. I’d bet you need different tools pinned for your own “GSD” mode vs slow down and “big picture plan” mode than I would. But for now, even a single “starred” mode would be a great first step toward that.

I’d vote twice if I could.

I’d vote 10 times if I could! Taking away our ability to curate our own favorite views in the navigation is very frustrating. I’m also concerned about de-emphasizing Teams which a lot of orgs use for navigation.
