Ability to expand/contract all subtasks in task list at once

Is there a way to expand/collapse all task groups in the List view? The latest update allows for expansion of tasks groups that contains subslists but I have to manually click each if I want to expand (or collapse) all of them at once.

Hi @anon21954826 and welcome to the Forum!

That is a great question. As it stands, it is not possible to expand or collapse all tasks at once. As you have explained, you need to click on each task individually.

This sounds like a good opportunity to get other users to support this idea. If it’s OK with you I’m moving this post to the #productfeedback category to cast votes from the Community! Please note I’ve slightly edited the title to make it more discoverable. Don’t forget to upvote it!

Have a great day Ben!

This would be a great feature & would really improve the use of sub tasks

I would love this feature as well - thanks for bringing it up @anon21954826

Add me to the list. I think this would be very helpful. As it currently stands, sub-tasks are under-loved. But they are tasks, too!

Yes! My team and I avoid subtask solely because we have to expand each task individually.

On the topic of expanding subtasks (List View) is there a way to keep subtasks expanded? Every time i switch to a different project and head back to the first project, the subtasks contract to the parent ticket by default.

I know that you can keep all tasks displayed by selecting “set layout as default” but that doesn’t apply to subtasks at the moment. Would be great to have this to avoid continuously clicking on the parent task(s) each time you open your project. Thanks!

I’d love to see both Ben_Emmons and James_D’s requests in Asana:

  • Include the ability to expand and collapse all tasks, including subtasks, all at once
  • Include the ability to keep sub-tasks visible all the time (shouldn’t this already be a part of “set layout as default view”?)

Thanks!

I’ve been also struggling without the ability to expand multiple tasks at the same time. I am not sure if I’d like to expand all of them (some of my lists are very long) but definitely yes being able to pick a few tasks and click/press something and have them expand. Then be able to select multiple again and click/press and collapse them.

I would also agree that remembering the expanded/collapsed status would save a lot of work for people working on multiple projects or views often.

Agree and would like this functionality as well.

This would be a very useful feature.

Great feature. I found this post because I was looking for how to do this!

Agree - the fact that it collapses everything you’ve expanded each time you switch to a different project is the troublesome part.

If nothing else, it would be great if at least the expanded subtasks were remembered after saving the view as default layout.

Just to say it out loud, it is painful every time that I switch back between projects and have to expand again the same subtasks. It’s a lot of wasted effort on an otherwise super productive tool, it feels odd.

Is there a way to have all of the subtasks within a task default to being expanded under list view, instead of reduced where you have to click on each one to expand?

Hi @anon92931652, that’s not possible at the moment, but we already have a thread on this topic, so I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with the main thread to keep all votes and comment in one place
