Every time we mention another task name ( with @ ) I hoped he could remember in the task witch task are assingned to each other, like a frame , so one task will lead to the other ( something like a patron or something like mindmapping ) do you understand my questions…? When I see the task menthoned in the board vieuw, it shows us how many times a task has a remark… is it possible to link @ task to another as a remark… Mayby you can explain why its possible to use the @…

I really would love to see you guys prioritize this. You have a great @mentioning that you built, especially as you don’t limit to tasks, but factor in Teams, projects, and Conversations!
You could add into the mentioned entities that reference, and suddenly you have a terrific traceability across Asana. I agree with @Adam_Sabla that at times you need to do this manually, but it’s a lot of work. GitHub, Jira, all kinds of other tools implement this well and it is a truly bonus feature I’d love to see here. One of my use cases is a meeting note in Asana: I can mention a task in the description, for example a decision we make about one, then in the destination task you can see that it was mentioned in the meeting and it gives a lot of transparency across work in Asana.

One of the best things about Asana is the ability to add @mentions other tasks. However it is not easy to see the reverse … that tasks A,B,C @mention task D.
For example, I have a task in Team A called “Add new feature to Product D”. Then there might be several related/followup tasks in various Teams B and C. Each of those tasks might have in the description See @“Add new feature to Product D” for details. But there is no way from the “Add new feature to Product D” task to see that these other tasks are mentioning it.
Currently the workaround is to go to the “Add new feature to Product D” task and @mention all the other related tasks. This is very tedious and requires lots of manual editing.
Yes, I could create a project that that contains all the various related tasks, but that is also much heavier solution that doesn’t really capture the essence of a simple backlink tracker.

This is basically the key success feature behind Roam Research, and recently was added to Notion.

So true, this is really overdue in Asana. Another tool Fibery has this as well and it’s a big piece of what they are doing. Even Hive has this if you mention stuff in their Docs tool.
Hope the team finds this would be useful, especially as the @mentioning around Asana is already so powerful. You just need to be able to reference where those mentions were made!

Asana… PLEASE… Implement “back linking”. Do not put your own spin on it. Do not call it “Connected work links” or whatever the hell you think it should be called. There’s this thing called UX where software companies consider how products similar to theirs are implemented and used in other parts of the market. Backlinks are a well-known phenomenon, that you can search and find plenty of good examples of across the internet. We expect this to show up as a property on a certain part of the task, above the description, where it will be every single time. I don’t want to have to EXPAND MY 3 COMMENTS just so that I can see 1 backlink at a time! We want it as a LIST! JUST LIKE WE DESCRIBED! You did NOT implement this feature! This is hardly a solution, my company would NEVER release something like this as a solution, but maybe as a workaround. Take a look at most wiki software, something like Notion, and see how they do backlinks. Do it exactly like that, exactly as we’ve requested, and then release the feature. Otherwise, when a user goes to see “Hmm, I wonder if there are any backlinks for this, where this task has been referenced?”, they won’t think that there’s NOTHING because they looked at the properties and don’t see a backlink. ASSUMING that they’re educated in the special snowflake ways that Asana likes to develop their software differently than everyone else, they can scroll down below all the properties, below the unlimited-length description field, click “show 28 previous updates”, and then HUNT for that little blue double-arrow icon. THAT SUCKS!
As an aside, I couldn’t even find the freaking “Connected work links” page, because I was searching google for “Asana backlink”, which I swear I got an email about a few months ago when this was released. What actually came to the results were several Asana forum posts referencing linking or backlinks, because that’s what the industry calls it, backlinks. It’s not a trademarked term or method. USE IT! I mean, in the linked forum thread, @Pal_Kristensen even references project links, a feature that Asana has already done well and has similar UX/UI to what we are expecting!
I can’t believe this is “released” and the threads are locked. I can’t even believe that Asana prioritized a feature request that had 23 upvotes over ones that have thousands. I’m so freaking tired of dealing with this decaying product and cannot wait to move to a platform that listens to its users about features that would be " The easiest way to manage team projects and tasks", because despite that being the first line I read on Asana’s homepage, that is the ANTITHESIS of my experience with Asana.

I support this 100%! While happy to see “work links” at all, this is not a good implementation of it. We need more info from what the incoming link - for example, what was said about the link. This is a huge cornerstone of Roam Research and has really allowed that tool to take off. Same with Notion as you point out @Andy_Strickland. Hoping for more evolution of this feature, so much potential here, but at least glad we have something now!

This seems somewhat aligned with Add a new Custom Field type: Reference / Relation / Lookup Field with a different spin. Perhaps a merge of ideas would be needed here.
Does this URL ‘hack’ still work? I tried it and it’s not working for me.
@Richard_Sather I wonder if this topic should be merged with your 🪄 Reference fields: set specific list of tasks or projects as dropdown options with two-way referencing (relational back-linking / lookup) ?
Hi @Phil_Seeman , from what I gather from the OP, this is quite different. It seems to be asking to gather links of all other tasks that the task in question is mentioned in - kinda similar to how Discourse in the forum here lists all the threads that the current thread has been mentioned/linked to.
I guess so, @Richard_Sather. In the last few posts it kind of morphed into a focus on back-linking, but I guess it should be separate.
