Subtask relative dates that change based on changes to parent task due date.

Hi there, I am looking to update subtasks due date when the date of the parent task changes. Is there a way to do this?

The solution via rules creates new subtasks each time the date is changed creating unnecessary duplicate tasks if a date is moved.

The task template approach does not allow it to be done relative to the parent task due date only date of creation.

I would like to create a task so it does the following while allowing me to alter the parent task date and update the subtask dates accordingly.

For example:

Parent Task - Due Jan 10

  • Subtask 1: Due Date -10 days from parent task due date
  • Subtask 2: Due Date -7 days from parent task due date
  • Subtask 3: Due Date -5 days from parent task due date
  • Subtask 4: Due Date -0 days from parent task due date

Hi @Mark_Neal1 , welcome to the forum :waving_hand:

Unfortunately this is not currently possible using native rules. (It could work with dependencies but that is only if the subtasks are after the parent task due date, for them to get ‘pushed out’). But if you are on an Enterprise plan you could possibly do this using Script actions in rules.

The alternative would be to use a 3rd party app such as Flowsana.net which I believe can do this. Right, @Phil_Seeman ?

Hi @Mark_Neal1 and thanks @Richard_Sather,

Yes, Flowsana can do this! It’s available via our Auto-adjust Workflow, and if that option doesn’t work well for your use case, via a FlowAgent.
