Sort Projects Manually in Sidebar

Yet another disappointed Asana user wanting the simple ability to reorder starred items in the sidebar by dragging. I use the sidebar to star portfolios, projects, advanced search filters/views, and dashboards. The starred filters seem to disappear when unstarred (at least I cannot find them) so I cannot even use the hacky workaround suggested. How can this functionality be missing in a work management platform? We cannot organize our work!

@Travis24 - I’m not sure what you mean by “starred filters”, but you very much can re-order starred items by dragging/dropping. What happens when you try to drag/drop starred items?

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for the reply. I am unable to select an item from the starred section and then reorder it by dragging above/below other starred items. If I’m not mistaken, the lack of this functionality is the purpose of this thread, so I’m confused by the assertion that this is possible. When I click and hold an item in the starred section, it LOOKS like it will allow me to reorder it due to a blue line that jumps between other starred items as I drag my mouse over them. However, nothing is reordered when I release the mouse button - the line just disappears.

By “starred filters” I mean starring a set of advanced search filters so they are saved to the sidebar for reuse. The icon is a magnifying glass (see image). These seem to be lost once unstarred, which is why I cannot even use the suggested “unstar/restar in a different order” approach.

@Travis24 - this thread is mainly dealing with projects in the “Projects” section of the sidebar (instead of starred projects). I don’t have any issues with moving around starred items (I use the browser version, I assume this holds true for the desktop app but not sure), so your best bet is probably to troubleshoot using these steps and then contact support if you can’t resolve.

RE: saved searches, they are technically not gone if you un-star (i.e., the direct URL will still take you to the search) but it’s definitely frustrating that there’s not a more persistent way to manage them. There aren’t too many related feedback requests (you could create one in the English Forum > Product Feedback category if you’d like), but here’s a sort of related request you could vote for:

+1 to everyone above about the lack of ability to manually change the order to the projects in the sidebar. I’m working on an Asana 101 for my org as we get ready to use it more broadly and this lack has come up as a question multiple times.

+1 as well, and it is crazy banana pants to not have this ability.

Just here to say I agree that it seems very dumb that the feature was removed. Thanks for the tips on ‘starring’ projects. It’s a bit crazy that we have to rely on such a workaround but it doesn’t look like manual sorting is coming back any time soon.

Not having this feature is crazy. Can’t see the logic why this was removed or why its so difficult to reinstate.
