Slack app in Asana - what is it for?

So I have integrated Slack and Asana - I completed this integration in Slack. There is a Slack app in Asana, which I have added to a project as a test. What does this app do in Asana? I see where you can add rules for Slack in the Rules section - but what does adding the Slack app do? There does not seem to be any functionality for this.
