Show out of office in advance

Clartiy is everything, so why not show out of offices in Asana in Advance?

Example, I already scheduled my out-of-office date in Asana two weeks in advance. It would be great if this can become visible in Asana when assigning tasks to each other. That way it’s clear that someone will be off soon and maybe you can already tackle some issues in advance (before that person goes on holiday).

So maybe a banner or similar in tasks in other color to announce that someone will be PTO soon.

Hi @Thomas_D, thank you for the suggestion :slight_smile:
It’s just a workaround and not a complete solution, but I just add a note to my profile name, such as “Shun Sakurai (scheduled OOO from Wed to Fri)”. I hope it helps.

I agree with Shun, we do the same!

Simple workarounds offered, but a great suggestion! upvoted +1

Yes, but if you have a script running in Asana that gathers projects in a portfolio based on the profile name it’s not a good idea to change that profile name :wink: @Bastien_Siebman

Damn you are right I might have been guilty of this! But that’s bad practice :no_mouth:

@Thomas_D and @Bastien_Siebman,

Isn’t using email addresses, not names, in scripts and the like usually preferred? And when done that way, OOO changes reflected in names wouldn’t affect those scripts and permit this helpful approach.

Thanks,

Larry

Yea of course you should never use object names or titles in code!

I’m wondering if anyone has found a solution for this? Seems like a missed opportunity when you are planning projects that Asana does not warn you when you assign a task to someone on a date they have their vacation set in Asana.

Hi Marisa and welcome to the forum,

FYI our Flowsana integration provides a solution for taking an action when a task falls on a holiday or someone’s time off.

This would be a very helpful feature to have! We run into issues capacity planning and (planning ahead) when people are scheduled to be OOO in advance
