Restrict from displaying tasks in certain sections/columns to certain project members

Hello,
We have a Project Board that has a variety of Columns. Some people shared with this Project need to be able to see every Column within the project, and other people shared with this Project, we would like to restrict some of the Columns that have Sensitive information so that they cannot see it. Is this possible to do in Asana?

This isn’t currently possible. All members of a project can see all tasks within that project, regardless of which section/column those tasks are in.

Note, you can assign tasks to people who are not members of a project but they would be quite confined, working out of context and not seeing the bigger picture.

Your workaround would be to create a new ‘twin’ project where the non-sensitive tasks would be multi-homed to, and invite the relevant people only to that. Meanwhile, you would keep the sensitive tasks (in those specific sections / columns) in the original ‘twin’, with relevant people in that project, removing the people that should not be privy to them.

All custom fields should be added to the library before you add them to the new ‘twin’ project. That way, their values would ‘sync’ across both projects.

Both twin projects would also benefit if you used a single-select field for your columns instead of sections, using the Group button set to the custom field instead. This would avoid building numerous rules to keep the columns synced.

Thanks Richard! Do you have any insight as to if this is on the roadmap for Asana upgrades in the future? Is there a good way to submit this as a feature request?

Hi @Michael_Sahl , I don’t work for Asana, I’m a volunteer Forum Leader and Asana Solutions Partner, so I don’t have any insight on such a feature coming in the near future. I recommend you join the Asana Ambassador program if you want to stay ahead of the game with being notified early on for upcoming features.

Having said that, I’ve convert this thread into a Product Feedback where you and others can now vote on. I’ve also rephrased the title for better searchability.
