I am no longer able to reorder task templates in the customize section after recent changes to the customize menu. Previously we could use the grips on the left (2x3 dots) to drag them up/down in the preferred order. However, now the different types of tasks are categorized into Task, Milestone, and Approval, and within each category, you can no longer order these tasks.
In the drop down lists, I was relying upon having task templates in a certain order to categorize the task templates depending on the topic.
It seems the UI/UX recently changed for Task Templates and now it’s housed under Task Types and Templates. From what I see, you can no longer drag and drop your task templates in the order you want them to appear. You used to be able to organize them as you wanted, so for example you could alphabetize them which would make it really easy to find what you need.
I’d love confirmation if this feature is truly gone and if it is, please consider adding that functionality back in. One other note, it does now take far more clicks than previously to get to task templates so it would be great to reduce the amount of actions it now takes.
Unfortunately, the new updated Task Template UI makes it much more tedious to find and use task templates, both in the Customize section but also in the “Task” drop-down menu where the templates are picked from.
I’d highly recommend going back to the previous UI version and allowing the task template order to be customized again, as this was a crucial part of why the feature was great before.
+1 to this. Not only is it no longer possible to reorder templates, the current UI requires many more clicks to access the template list than before, which is a bit inconvenient for people who use it often.
I very much miss being able to reorder my task templates. I typically order them based on which templates are the most commonly used so it’s faster to access on the drop down. Please bring it back!
I wish we were able to organize task or duplicate templates. Our Task Template section is all over the place now and it’s very inconvenient to find the correct one we need for a project.
Yeah this feature being lost was an oversight. I wonder if there’s another place to view the tasks where we can maybe still sort them hidden somewhere else.
You can at least still order them in templates, and after creating a job these seem to stay locked in at least. Not much use for existing jobs, but good for future ones at least..
Ahh with the latest updated, my trick of editing the templates to reorder the tasks no longer is possible as they’ve added the custom task template options to templates. It’s a shame it makes the task templates much harder to use.
Frustrating to encounter this, as we periodically change template order or introduce new templates that should be brought higher in the list based on use or grouping. We reached out to Asana and opened a case to ask if they would reorder them for us and received this response:
Thank you for reaching out! My name is [removed] from the Asana Support team, and I’ll be here to address your question regarding task template.
I’m afraid it is not possible to rearrange the order of task templates currently. I do understand how inconvenient it can be with having to delete and recreate to move the order.
I wanted to note your feedback and forward your case to our Product team if you don’t mind. By forwarding the team your feedback, it’ll receive visibility on this use case and may encourage our engineers to implement a functionality to rearrange the order of task templates.
Apologies as I understand that this isn’t the answer you are looking for, Elizabeth. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I’m disappointed this feature that existed at least as far back as 2023, was lost and then re-launched in 2024 (Sorting task templates with the new Customize menu redesign) with “I’m excited to let you know that our PMs have heard your feedback,” and now has been recently lost again. Please don’t make us restate the need and resubmit feedback to get a feature re-prioritized when it was already understood to be a need and functionality was broken (or past feedback disregarded intentionally?) with a UI redesign. We shouldn’t have to open new feature requests and start from zero to garner votes for a feature that was broken by Asana.
